Phalen Creek Nibi Walk

  • MN Humanities Center (map)

Join Lower Phalen Creek Project and the Minnesota Humanities Center and its "We Are Water MN” with partners, the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment and the River Life Program, in learning more from Phalen Creek. Sharon Day will lead us in a Nibi walk: an Indigenous-led, extended ceremony to pray for the water. The walk begins at the headwaters, Lake Phalen, and will wind through East Saint Paul and Lowertown to the mouth of the creek, at the Mississippi River.

This free event has two parts: on Oct. 6, walkers learn about Dakota history of the creek, ecological impacts of and to the creek, and Nibi Walk protocols; on Oct. 27 is the actual walk, followed immediately by lunch and a reflection activity.

*Participants must attend both Oct. 6 and Oct. 27.
